Karviná
Learn moreKarviná is a statutory city in the Moravian-Silesian Region and at the same time part of a major Central European industrial agglomeration, including the north-eastern part of the Czech Republic, southern Poland and north-western Slovakia. Investors can thus take advantage of the locally available labour force, the abundance of suppliers and customers in the border region of the three countries and the large market of local consumers.
Karviná has always been one of the economically strong areas with a high concentration of industry, especially mining, which is followed by other manufacturing sectors. The region is home to companies in the mechanical, chemical, electrical and construction industries, for example.
At the same time, the town has achieved European importance thanks to its spa industry. Since the end of the 19th century, the Darkov spa was built because of the discovery of medicinal iodine-bromine brine. Thanks to its results in the treatment of movement problems, it is widely visited by foreign and domestic guests.
In recent years, the importance of the town as a commercial and tourist centre has been strengthened. The nearby Beskydy Mountains create ample opportunities for recreation and relaxation. With the establishment of the Faculty of Business and Entrepreneurship of the Silesian University in Opava, Karviná has also become a university town.
