Signing a memorandum of cooperation

17. July 2019

On Wednesday, July 17, 2019, the space of the long-closed Gabriela Mine in Karviná came to life for a few hours. This is where the memorandum of cooperation on the reconstruction of the former mining area in Karvinsko region was signed. This area between Havířov, Karviná and Orlová should, thanks to the memorandum, begin to come to life and gradually become a territory on the move, with new energy and full of new technologies.

Moravian-Silesian Investment and Development prepared Development Strategy of the former mining area in Karvina region until 2030 (abbreviated as POHO2030). By signing the Memorandum of Cooperation, the zero phase of the conceptual work was completed, focusing on analyzing the landscape and defining concrete proposals and visions for land recovery. Work on the mountain landscape project will thus officially go into the first stage, which envisages the creation of a platform for coordination, strategic plan, master plan and implementation of pilot projects.

A number of actors are involved in the project to rebuild this former mining area. Among the signatories of the memorandum are many key partners from more than thirty subjects. In addition to the regional governor, it was signed by representatives of key companies such as DIAMO, Asental Land and OKD, mayors of towns in the region, directors of key companies and representatives of other regionally important organizations such as universities, Dolní Vítkovice, Czechinvest and others.

All information about the POHO2030 project is available on the website www.poho2030.cz or via email: info@poho2030.cz. The project coordinator is Ludmila Sedlářová.
